The Gala de l’Alternative Musicale Indépendante du Québec (GAMIQ) and the Montreal International Music Initiative (MIMI) found the Quebec Independent Music Association (AMIQ).

This new association will present an awards show and promotional events for the Quebec independent scene. The GAMIQ now becomes the official awards show for the Quebec alternative music scene and recognizes achievements by independently produced Quebec artists. The MIMI continues to provide support in touring and artist development with grants and showcases. People from the GAMIQ, the MIMI, Voir, Bang Bang, Gillett Entertainment Group, Mile End Cultural Centre and the SOPREF are on the AMIQ board of directors.

The AMIQ also creates an events producers advisory committee to improve the importance of these events on the music scene and get attention from people and public authorities. This committee will make visibility and artists trades easier between the events and will help them for grants requests.
